News: GW Newsletter - Spearhead News; New Plastic Kits

View Comments
Hello all, Slick here. The latest GW newsletter is out and this one is pretty exciting as it previews the new Spearhead expansion and related kits coming out soon! There is a lot to digest here. Taking a look at the picture below you see the Manticore as well as a Leman Russ Exterminator, and what appear to be Vanquishers. Further down there also seems to be an Eradicator. The Eldar are also getting some love with the long-rumored plastic Fireprism and plastic Support Weapons. The Imperial forces are also getting a Knight Commander Pask mini to upgrade tanks with! Lastly, there is also something of an upgrade sprue for vehicles coming out in relation to Spearhead. Whew!

In this issue: Important Spearhead news; New Eldar & Imperial Guard kits

Spearhead: latest news

Spearhead is a new Expansion for Warhammer 40,000, and you'll find all the rules and information you need to start playing in June's issue of White Dwarf. And from Tuesday 1st of June rules for the various spearhead units will be available for you to download from www.games-workshop.com. There you go: an entire Warhammer 40,000 expansion for free, leaving you plenty of extra pennies to pick up those extra tanks you'll need to demolish your opponent.

Spearhead
Spearhead

Spearhead presents you with an exciting new way to play games of Warhammer 40,000. For a start, Spearhead games are played along the length of the table, and all walkers and tanks that are chosen as part of a spearhead count as scoring units. Not to mention the fact that all those walkers and tanks will benefit from a host of special rules and abilities.

Eldar: new tanks & weapons platform

Just in time to give them the edge in Spearhead, those forward-thinking Eldar have added the firepower of two new plastic kits to their arsenal. The new Fire Prism kit can be assembled as either a Fire Prism or the all-new Death Spinner, which means no matter what type of force your opponent fields, you'll have the weaponry to defeat him.

Fire Prism Fire Prism

The Fire Prism has the most powerful anti-vehicle weapon of any Eldar tank (it's also pretty great at vaporising elite infantry). It will be particularly potent in games of Spearhead where it'll have ample opportunity to blast apart enemy vehicles.

Eldar Support Platform Eldar Support Platform

The Eldar use Support Weapons to mount their heaviest weaponry. Advance order the new plastic Eldar Support Weapon and unleash either the armour busting D-cannon, the dangerously powerful vibro cannon or the infantry shredding shadow weaver, on your enemy.

Imperial Guard: new tanks & tank upgrades

Also available to advance order from today are some brand-new Imperial Guard tank kits including the Deathstrike Missile Launcher, which has the largest missile ever. It's huge!

Leman Russ Battle Tank Leman Russ Battle Tank

The Leman Russ Battle Tank is the mainstay of the Imperial army. It's well armoured and mounts a powerful array of weaponry that can be tailored to meet any foe. We'd heartily recommend you field as many Leman Russ tanks as possible - your opponent may not be so keen.

Manticore/Deathstrike Manticore/Deathstrike

The Deathstrike Missile Launcher and Manticore Rocket Launcher are the last word in artillery, and are now available as a plastic kit. Be among the first to wield the thunderous firepower of these new Imperial Guard tanks - advance order them here.

Knight Commander Pask Knight Commander Pask

Knight Commander Pask can be added to any Imperial Guard tank. Pask has a Ballistic skill of 4 and gains +1 to armour penetration rolls. Increase the lethality of your battle tanks with this legendary Cadian tank commander.

Squadron Command Frame Squadron Command Frame

The Squadron Command Frame allows you to upgrade your walkers and tanks to command vehicles and will help you identify individual spearheads on the battlefield.

Uncharted Seas: Shroud Mages

View Comments
Hello all, Slick here. After getting the Uncharted Seas rules it was time to pick an army. I decided to go with the Shroud Mages which are the equivalent of Chaos Dwarfs in Warhammer Fantasy. This is one of the starter fleets that is available for all the armies and comes with 6 frigates, 3 cruisers, and 1 battleship. The Shroud Mages benefit from being able to ignore the wind direction and their magic spells are deadly when combined with their firepower. These guys have really good defense and some serious broadside firepower. The only real disadvantage is their lack of speed. I will be painting these up very soon so stay tuned.

Uncharted Seas

Hello all, Slick here. Time for something entirely different. Our LGS recently got in several box sets and the rulebook for a game called Uncharted Seas. Out of curiosity our gaming group decided to take a look at the game and the more we checked out the minis and read about the game itself the more eager everyone was to try this game out. It reminds one of the old GW game 'Man o War' and has a setting populated by familiar races (humans, elves, dwarfs etc.) with some interesting twists though. The game's rules are fairly easy to learn and there are a good variety of armies to try out. Another plus is the fact that the startup cost for the game is rather cheap, with the rulebook being $30 and most starter fleets being around $30 as well. The ships are rather tiny (15mm I believe) and all of the armies are listed in the rulebook so there is no need to buy codecies and other supplemental materials. Additional rules and units are available as free pdf downloads from the Spartan Games website which is a big plus. My only real complaint are the numerous and glaring grammar mistakes throughout the book. A lot of the book feels rushed and a few units do not have finalized rules and you need to find these on their website. In various places there are sentences simply missing words to make them intelligible. These are just minor gripes though, and after playing our first game today we can definitely recommend checking this game out! It is a very good palate-cleansing game for anyone feeling a bit burned out on the usual 40K or Fantasy game.

Imperial Guard: Leman Russ

View Comments
Hello all, Slick here. Time for another update to the Imperial Guard. This is just a regular Leman Russ equipped with 3 heavy bolters and a heavy stubber. It's primarily an anti-infantry setup and coupled with the battle cannon it should take of a squad each turn. This wraps up all of the initial tanks I got for the army and I'm going to turn toward painting the troops for a while before I get to some of the newer vehicle acquisitions. Comments welcome!

Hello all, Slick here. The latest Mantic newsletter is out and this time it's all about the upcoming release of the Mantic Journal! Those who subscribe now can earn themselves a free mini too!

Mantic Games Newsletter
THE MANTIC JOURNAL

The races of the Kings of War are constantly embroiled in a world of legendary battles and heroic deeds, where the clashing of swords and ringing of steel is pierced only by a hailstorm of arrows and bolts of magical lightning – the world is a dangerous place; the world is at war.

The Mantic Journal chronicles these epic encounters, recording the actions of heroes and the bravery of their armies. Each issue will give examples of the units that fought in the conflict, supported by full colour photographs of fully painted miniatures, whilst also providing hobby tips and painting advice on how to make a stand-out army ready for your own battles.

In Issue 1, the insane necromancer Mhorgoth and his mighty army of skeleton warriors marches from the south, heading unerringly to the ruined city of Borath Lei. Under the Elven city's gates lies the bones of ten thousand Elven warriors, intermingled with those who slew them, and Mhorgoth intends to raise these dead, creating a horde so vast surely all the Southern Elven Kindreds will be destroyed, claiming the revenge he so desperately seeks.

We don't expect our quarterly journal to replace any of your current magazines, but available as a free download and at an exceptionally low price, there's no reason not to pick it up. If that's not enough to wet your appetite,
here's a sneak preview.

Issue 1: Mhorgoth's Revenge is available for pre-order now both individually and as part of a four-issue subscription service which includes a free Mhorgoth the Faceless model.
Mhorgoth the Faceless

We believe that as the main antagonist of the issue, you would like to get your hands on the Mhorgoth the Faceless figure, even though he was previously the top scoring Mantic Point – after talking with those who have claimed him, we've decided that not only are we making Mhorgoth available to purchase individually, we are also making him a free gift with a subscription or half price using the code found in Mhorgoth's Revenge.
That's not to say there won't be an Undead Mantic Point figure however - we have an exceptional sculpt to replace him with! Keep watching the
mantic blog.
