View Comments
Hello all, Slick here. The latest GW newsletter is out and some new releases for the armies of Middle Earth are on their way. Check out the Cave Drake below!

The Games Workshop Newsletter 15.09.2010
In this issue: Cave Drake unleashed

New on Advance Order

In The Lord of the Rings Gandalf said, 'Far, far below the deepest delving of the Dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things.' Well, now we can put a name and a bestial-face to those things - Cave Drake (see below for the face). This massive beastie and four other new sets for The Lord of the Rings are now available to advance order. The forces of Good are reinforced by two all-new Dwarf Heroes - The King's Champion and Flói Stonehand. While the Gundabad Blackshields Command and Gundabad Blackshields sets arrive to bolster the denizens of the Misty Mountains.

Advance order a mighty Cave Drake here.
Advance order a mighty Cave Drake here.

The Cave Drake is a formidable monster and the ultimate hero killer. Should this serpentine terror defeat an enemy hero then it will swallow them whole, killing them instantly.

The Dwarf Holds The Dwarf Holds

As a warrior, the Kings Champion is second to none. Use him to slay Mûmaks and fight Heroic Duels. Flói Stonehand on the other hand has more subtle uses, able to nullify an enemy formation's special rule just when they need it most.

The Misty Mountains The Misty Mountains

Gundabad Blackshields are elite Goblins. They are as strong as Uruk-hai, and thanks to suits of heavy armour and the thick shields that give them their name, as resilient as Trolls. These burly Goblins are ideal for holding your battleline together.

Hey all, time for another GW newsletter. This time there is some info for the Space Wolves and lo and behold, reinforcements for Easterlings in WotR among other things:

ssue 61 The Games Workshop Newsletter 21.09.2009

The Space Wolves are the most fierce and barbaric of all the Space Marine Chapters. They are proud, ferocious warriors who like nothing more that to feast and slay in their Primarch’s name. With an all-new Codex, two new multi-part plastic sets and three new metal models there’s never been a better time to collect the descendants of Russ. Check out the full range of new Space Wolves in the Warhammer 40,000 Advance Order section.

It's nice to see the bad guys getting some new minis for WotR. However, what they really need are more plastic sets instead of metal ones. The costs for several metal units in the evil armies are simply prohibitive. What do you guys think?

War of the Ring: Easterlings Update

View Comments
Hey all, time for another WotR update. I picked up Dalamyr Fleet Master of Umbar as my first epic hero. I like his epic posion ability for rerolls and the caltrops to negate enemy charge bonuses. He was pretty fun to paint as well and didn't take all that long. Now I'll have to bulk out my infantry forces quite a bit. Comments welcome!

War of the Ring: Small Easterlings Update

View Comments
Small update for the Easterlings. Picked up Dalamyr Fleetmaster of Umbar as my Epic Hero. Eventually I'm going to replace him with either the Serpent Lord of Khamul but for now he's a cheap leader to use. Hoping to pick up another infantry box or two soon.

Hobby & War of the Rings: Magnetizing WotR Movement Trays

View Comments
Hey all, a quick WotR update here. I decided on magnetizing all of my movement trays for WotR. While most of the plastic ones basically lock into place and you can move them around without any tipping over etc, I'm going with this route to keep transporting them simple as I plan on transporting them in companies, ready to go. It'll also come in handy so that they'll stay on the trays while they're being transported, especially the metal stuff (aka 90% of the Easterlings range lol). Comments welcome!

WotR Update: Finally got some Easterlings!

View Comments
Hey all, finally picked up a box of Easterling infantry to get my force rolling in earnest. Aside from everything else being metal in the army (not counting the mumak) it turns out that the box is divided into 3 infantry types. It also only contains 20 troops instead of 24 like most other infantry boxes. You get a whopping 4 pikemen, and then 8 each of swordsmen and archers. To even get one full unit of pikes that will be 4 more boxes of Easterlings. Not too big of a problem since I don't plan on using too many metal units, but still quite annoying. In any case, I also picked up some movement trays which I'll be magnetizing as well. It shouldn't take too long to get that first batch of Easterlings finished so expect some pics soon.

Hey all, just a start on Easterlings. Here is my one and only Cataphrakt so far. He'll eventually be joined by the rest of his unit (these guys are the goldswords of WotR). Comments welcome!
