Hello all, Slick here. I've been searching around a bit for some alternate model/custom basing sites and found the following to be pretty cool:

I must say DragonForge makes some really awesome bases and I will be basing all of my Guard infantry on their desert bases. They really have some excellent deals there! Worth checking out!

Hey all, Slick here. Looking for some awesome heroes to add that extra little bit of cool to your army? Check out Raging Heroes! They are fairly new but have some excellent hero minis which can work in multiple armies. They are a French company so keep the Euro prices in mind when ordering. Definitely a company to keep an eye on.

Retailer Spotlight: Mantic Games

View Comments
Hey guys, check this company out: http://www.manticgames.com/Home.html

They are a startup miniatures company who look to be on to something. They don't have an extensive range yet, but what they do have is quite promising. Their minis are in plastic and in my opinion a welcome departure on the often overly ornamented GW style. They're also cheaper and you get more per box than the equivalent GW set.

Perhaps the coolest aspect are what they've done with bases.

Round bases inside of square bases - really cool and innovative. Take them off the square bases for skirmishers, put them on for ranked units.

From their site:

"At Mantic Games, we are always looking to do things better.

Sometimes that means improving, sometimes cheaper, sometimes just different, but always with quality uppermost in our thoughts.

Here is an example:

We have taken a look at the current carry case solutions, amd he way miniatures are packed for retailing, and tried to come up with a new solution. We think the cardboard box is environmentally a pretty poor idea nowadays, because after you have taken the models out, the box goes in the bin.

The Mantic Storage solution re-uses the packaging as your carry case. Once you have made up the models you use the foam inserts to store your miniatures on the shelf. Then when you come to fight a battle, just take them off the shelf, pop them straight into the Mantic Games Bag (or any other bag you have!) and away you go.

We have a download area which will allow you to personalise your cases, (and also a new cover you can use to smuggle new purchases past the girlfriend/wife and store them on your shelf without fear of discovery!).
Mantic Games has been to set up to make great plastic (along with metal, and resin) fantasy models, dedicated to producing the world's finest miniatures. It has been created to bring together the best sculptors, artists and writers from around the globe to produce fantastic models that are a pleasure to collect, paint and game with. Perhaps for the first time, it will be possible to not just dream of huge armies, but actually be able to afford them.
The first thing that should strike you about Mantic Games miniatures is that they are the only true 28mm fantasy models on the market in plastic. This means that all the models are correctly proportioned and look exactly as they should in real life. This gives the miniatures a realism that you seldom see in fantasy gaming products, making Mantic Games unique in its approach.
For us, great model soldiers are about enjoyment. They are a place where valour and magic live. Painting an army creates a bond with the troops, and seeing a wonderfully painted and modelled force on the gaming table is an awe-inspiring sight.
Mantic believes in providing superb product, customer service and support for a great price.
Mantic models will all have a number of unique points:

Quality:
Using the best designers, artists, toolmakers and materials to ensure the quality of the product is always first class.

Affordable:
We want armies to be affordable and easy to collect, to make army collecting faster and cheaper, but never compromising on the highest quality. We want all our products to be packed full of goodies for you to enjoy.

Easy To Use:
Our figures will offer endless modelling options for those who want them, but also easy to use, simple clip-together and play features for those keen to get their army on the gaming table.

Fun:
There will be extras included on all the sprues, such as dead figures, and extra parts to use on bases

The ‘Mantic’ storage solution:
All Mantic models will come in their own innovative re-usable packaging plastic case, which then doubles up as a storage solution and carrying case.
Re-use and personalise your carry case, to display your collection, line up your carry cases on your bookcase for an impressive display of your army."

These guys are definitely worth checking out, especially if they get around to doing any mercenary style minis. Lots of plastic pikes on the cheap? I'll take some. What do you guys think?

Hey all, looking to add some cool decals and nose art to your new Valkyries and IG tanks similar to what you'd see on WWII vehicles? Then check out Starship Modeler which offers a huge variety of decals and nose art that can be used for your minis. You'll want to click on the link for Nose Art and "Cheesecake" Decals. You can check out some of their decals below or better yet just follow the links and browse around. They also sell some Tamiya weathering kits to add that extra amount of detail to your tanks etc. What do you guys think?

Hey all, check out Litko Aerosystems! They have a ton of cool stuff ranging from terrain, templates and tokens, to various movement trays (even magnetic basing), and plenty more. Their prices are also pretty reasonable. Comment away!

A nice way to figure out that line of sight arc for Fantasy

Always forgetting to shoot or use magic in fantasy? Can't remember what turn it is? Check this thing out?

One of the hardest parts about fantasy is getting the wheeling distances correct. Not anymore with these badass turn wheels. They have them for 20mm, 25mm, and even 40mm bases.

What do you guys think? I might just have to order up a set of those turn wheel templates and possibly that turn counter.

Hey all, found these guys while browsing around: Grey Army Miniatures. They make some excellent alternative 40K-inspired minis which are generally a little cheaper than GW's prices. Their minis are resin so keep that in mind if you plan conversions. They're UK-based but ship internationally so keep that in mind should you decide to order.

I'm definitely liking the guy with the satchel charge. He works as a counts-as 'Sly Marbo' for Cadians (for those who don't want to use Rambo). I'm definitely considering ordering up one of these guys. These are their only two releases thus far (they're just starting out) but this certainly looks like a promising start! What do you guys think?

Favorite Retailers: Zuzzy Miniatures

Time to feature another great company out there, this time Zuzzy Miniatures! I've been a fan of these guys for a while, especially their gaming mats which are featured below. Don't feel like dropping close to $300 on GW's modular table? Try one of these rubber gaming mats instead. Best of all storing them is easy - just roll it up and that's that. Although their called Zuzzy Miniatures these guys are strictly a terrain manufacturer. They don't have a huge variety but what they have is pretty good and at good prices.

Perfect place to hide a spellcaster!

Looking to magnetize your fantasy army for easier storage and transportation, and to not have them tipping over while you move them? Then look no further than Magcraft! They have rare earth magnets of all shapes and sizes for a good price. Their shipping is fast and cheap too!

I picked up 100 mags for my various fantasy armies and they are definitely useful! This can save you a lot of time especially if you're playing a horde army and really helps prevent minis (such as top heavy ones) from tipping over. Well worth checking out.

I've been a fan of these guys for quite some time. They simply produce excellent ready-to-use terrain at fair prices and their selection is huge! I've picked up several of their terrain sets and they're useful for both Fantasy and 40K. They are based in Europe (Germany) so you'll have to factor that in when you're ordering from them. You can visit their website here. Take a look at the pics below for a small selection of their awesome terrain!

In Germany the model train hobby is pretty big and there is a huge variety of terrain available for that. What works for model trains can also double for Warhammer. They offer numerous tree and foliage sets, streets, fences, and more. Most of their terrain items are also fairly inexpensive. Case in point, I picked up 4 packs of their roads to use in 40K. For about $20 I have close to 20ft of road. Compare that to GW's road set for 40K...

They are a German-based company but you can still order internationally. Keep the Euro-Dollar exchange rate in mind. Take a look at their site here.

Shipping might be a bit pricey if you order internationally but you definitely get a lot of terrain for your money.

Favorite Retailers: Pig Iron Productions

Starting a new regular feature called Favorite Retailers where I'll provide some info and links to some of the better online retailers and various miniatures & wargames companies out there.

To start this section off, here is one I recently came across. They're called Pig Iron Productions. Right now they're just making miniatures without any rule system or set universe so that means they're open to be used in a lot of different game systems. A lot of their stuff right now could pull double-duty in some Imperial Guard armies and offer some nice alternatives. Check out the picture below from their gallery for an example of their minis and then follow the provided link to check them out! They are UK-based so keep the prices in and shipping in mind if you decide to order.

These guys certainly have a nice look to them in a very Death Korps kinda of way. Might just have to pick up some of these guys. Take a look at their minis and then comment away! What do you guys think?

Here is a link to zuzzy miniatures, they make some really cool rubber battlemats that have lots of detail moulded in. They don't have a really big range rigth now, but what they have looks great and I'm sure they'll be adding more. Check them out here.
