Flames of War: Reinforcements

View Comments
Hi all, yet more additions to the Grenadier Kompanie. Artillery definitely plays a big role in this game, so much so that not having any leaves you at a serious disadvantage. To remedy that, I picked up the complete 10.5cm artillery battery for my Grenadiers! Once everything is gets painted I'll work on adding these guys to the Kompanie. This is a nice set as it contains scenic bases for everything. Comments welcome!

Flames of War: 3 Ton Trucks

View Comments
Hi all, another Flames of War update. Here we have the 3-ton Trucks that are part of my PaK 40 AT platoon. This adds some mobility to the otherwise static guns, in case I need to pack them up and relocate to a better position. Comments welcome!

Flames of War: Stugs

View Comments
Hi all, another Flames of War update. This time we have tanks! I have some work in progress pics on the makings of my Stug G platoon. Here are the first two tanks. They still need their cammo patterns painted on. Thus far, they are proving quite deadly against Shermans although their weak side/rear armor is concerning as is the fact that the guns are hull mounted meaning it's hard to get them firing at full ROF. I'll have to add more to the platoon soon. Comments welcome!

Flames of War: Update

View Comments
Hi all, a quick Flames of War update. This time it's a Grenadier team with an attached HMG team. These guys still need a lot of touching up and highlighting. I've got 2 more HMG teams to paint in order to finish that platoon, and then it's on to the dozen or so teams for my Grenadier platoons. Comments welcome!

Terrain: Castle Project

View Comments
Hi all, time for a new terrain project. I managed to pick up this massive castle (on par with GW's) for a really good deal, about $15 in fact! This will be fun to use in campaigns and siege scenarios. Check back for some progress updates on this beast.

News: Forgeworld Newsletter #225

View Comments
Hi all, time for another FW newsletter, and this time it's a big one! The main thing is of course the release of the jaw-dropping Lord of Change! This is easily the coolest of the 4 greater demons. In other news, it looks like some WotR terrain is back as well as some out of stock BFG models. One interesting tidbit is that they already have a venerable dreadnaught in the works among other things! Hopefully Blood Angels will also finally get a venerable dread when their codex hits next year. Comments welcome!

"Hi There,
Christmas fast approaches and I`ve quite a few updates and items of news for you this newsletter, not to mention the long-awaited arrival of the mighty Lord of Change model previewed at UK Games Day. Keep an eye out for more newsletters coming soon with some more exciting surprises and previews for you.

Thanks
Alan Bligh

The Lord of Change
The main release for this newsletter is the fantastic Aetaos`rau`keres, Daemon Lord of Tzeentch. This massive 240mm tall (to the top of its summoned horrors) model which you can see Here, designed by Dan Cockersell, completes Forge World`s set of Daemon Lords for the great powers of Chaos, and is without doubt the most detailed we have released. The model itself is alive with extraordinary design work and malice as befits this Slayer of Souls, from the intricate feathers of its wings to the writhing nightmare mass of daemonic horrors being summoned into its grasp. Rules for this spite-filled and insane Daemon Lord, so dangerous as to be spoken of in hushed tones, even by Tzeentch’s twisted cultists, can be found in the forthcoming book, Imperial Armour Apocalypse II.

The Lord of Change is available to pre-order now for release the week commencing the 30th of November.

The Ruined Watchtower of Amon Sul
By popular demand we`ve brought back our hugely popular Lord of the Rings terrain model `The Ruined Watchtower of Amon Sul on Weathertop` for sale this Christmas in limited quantities. This fantastic model measures over 400mm across and is faithfully detailed as it was sculpted by Simon Egan, using photos and plans supplied by New Line Cinema from the original film set, and has in fact been used by them since as reference for its other licensees. This iconic piece of terrain will only be available while stocks last, and is available for pre-order now for release the week commencing the 30th of November.

The Sons of Fenris
With the recent release of the great new Space Wolves Codex we’ve had lots of enquiries here at Forge World asking whether we are planning to do some more models for the warriors of Fenris. The simple answer to this is absolutely yes, and sooner rather than later in fact, with a Venerable Dreadnought on the way. Until then however, we do already have a number of Space Wolves accessories you can get your teeth into including a Terminator Conversion Set, Icons, Chapter Specific Doors and Brass Etch Symbols and of course our mighty Thunderhawk is available with Space Wolves iconography as well.

Christmas Shipping Update
The recent industrial action by Royal Mail in the UK has ended, and this means that we are able to resume our usual delivery methods for all customers with immediate effect, with the following dates your order should reach us by for delivery before Christmas:

Destination Standard Delivery UPS Express
UK 15th December 20th December
Europe 9th December 20th December

Mini-Tactica: Vespero's Vendetta

View Comments
Hello all, time to focus a little bit on Dogs of War as I've been neglecting them as of late.

For this mini-tactica I’ll be discussing Vespero’s Vendetta. As with many other Regiments of Renown (ROR) it is a case of cool minis that suffer from mediocre rules. Vespero’s Vendetta are both overpriced and lack any rules or stats to make them worth taking (unless it’s just a casual game or themed list), especially when compared to the superlative regular duelists which you could purchase more of for your army list instead. All of the negative aspects aside, let us take a look at what Vespero’s Vendetta can do.

The members of Vespero’s Vendetta are essentially standard duelists led by Vespero, a captain level hero who has slightly higher Weapon Skill than an average captain. The duelists of VV have two hand weapons and throwing knives as well as cloaks, giving them some small protect in combat.

As with regular duelists, VV have the skirmish special rule.

Unlike most Regiments of Renown, Vespero’s Vendetta has a magic item, although its use is rather limited. Vespero himself has a mask that causes fear. This ability is only for Vespero himself and is not conveyed to the rest of the unit. A unit strength (US) 1 fear causing model is practically useless and a clear sign of the age of this Dogs of War army list. It will only have a very limited effect if any.

If you are intent on using Vespero’s then they would be used much like regular duelists, although they are nowhere near as useful across as many situations as pistol-armed duelists. They are as fragile as regular duelists with an increased cost to boot. Even in combat, Vespero’s higher than average weapon skill will not mean much in today’s Warhammer environment as many unit champions from newer books could easily deal with Vespero.

As with regular duelists they would excel at protecting lone characters or the precious few war machines available to mercenary generals. Alternately, you could play this unit more aggressively and try to hunt down lone enemy wizards and their war machines. With as much shooting and magic as most armies currently bring to the table, the chances of survival for Vespero’s on the tabletop are rather bleak.

I could see the unit being used in a themed list and casual play but certainly not in any type of competitive list. Sadly, Vespero is best left on the shelf.

Apocalypse: Vulture Hunter-Killer Strike Force Datasheet

View Comments
Hello all, here is one of the Datasheets I created for our Lucky 13s campaign : Vulture Hunter-Killer Strike Force

Vulture Hunter-Killer Strike Force 50 Points + Models

Formation: 3-9 Vulture Gunships. Every 3 Vultures form a squadron. Every third vulture may be replaced by a Vendetta for the appropriate points cost.

One Vulture in the Strike Force must be nominated the Command Vulture.

Type: Flyer

Options: Vulture and Vendettas may have any equipment options normally allowed, however all vultures within a squadron must be equipped in the same manner.

Special Rules:

Strike Force: All Vultures must be deployed together within 12” of the squad leader. After this they may move and act normally in the following turns.

Close Air Support: A squadron may be called upon to provide close air support to frontline units, typically tasked with taking out advancing enemy units or preventing friendly positions from being overrun. Nominate an enemy unit within 12” of any friendly unit. All units in the squadron firing at this target may re-roll hits against the enemy unit. After the shooting phase the squadron will automatically disengage as they have spent all of their ammunition on the advancing enemies and must fly back to a base to rearm and resupply. This squadron must wait a turn before reentering the battle zone.

Comments welcome!

Apocalypse: Xeno-Virus Strategic Asset

View Comments
Hello all, here is another Strategic Asset I created for our Lucky 13s campaign : Xeno-Virus

Xeno-Virus: Imperium scientists have developed a deadly virus that targets a given Xenos race such as Orks or Tyranids in order to prevent their countless numbers from quenching the light of the Imperium of Man!

When Revealed: Before the game begins, nominate one of your units. They will be equipped with special ammunition containing the virus and will be tasked with exposing the xenos to it. You must also nominate a specific xenos reace before the game. Reveal it in the shooting phase of one of your turns.

Effect: Reveal that your unit is using this asset and target any enemy xenos unit within range of your unit. In addition to the normal effects of shooting, the enemy unit must also take a toughness test for every successful hit they have taken in that shooting phase. If any toughness test is failed the unit becomes infected and will reduce it’s toughness by 1. A unit whose toughness reaches zero is immediately destroyed. The virus is also designed to spread itself among a xenos host. At the start of the enemy xenos player’s turn, all units of that xenos race within 12” must pass a single toughness test. If passed the unit is not affected by the virus that turn. If failed, the unit reduces its toughness by 1 and must then test every following turn for the same effect. Newly infected units will also have a chance to spread the virus in subsequent turns. The virus lasts for the duration of the game once revealed or until all infected units are destroyed.

Apocalypse: Napalm Barrage Asset

View Comments
Hi all, time for something a little different. For the Lucky 13s campaign we had some fun events such as creating assets, story and campaign writing, and making new datasheets, aside from the games themselves of course.

Here is one of the strategic assets I created which has proven quite popular already. Comments welcome!

Napalm Barrage: Vegetation, clothes, and skin are all burned away when Imperial commanders order a napalm strike to clear out entrenched enemies.

When Revealed: In the shooting phase of one of your turns.

Effect: Place the Hellstorm Template anywhere on the battlefield and roll 2d6+ the scatter die. All models touched by the template take a S6 AP4 hit with no cover saves allowed. All removable terrain such as forests, fences etc touching the template are removed. Open-topped vehicles are automatically glanced. Once placed the template remains until the end of the game to represent the napalm continuing to burn. Any models still touching the template or coming into contact with it in subsequent turns take a S6 AP4 hit during each movement phase until they are no longer in contact with it.
